FAQ
Straight answers, at the length they deserve.
The questions people actually ask on the first call: what you get, where the data comes from, how contacts and privacy are handled, and what it costs. The numbers in the answers are read from the database.
A lead is a name. An opportunity says why that person could need what you make. Every opportunity in Lacuna answers four questions:
Who? Which researcher or research group we have identified.
What problem? The concrete challenge the researcher has documented, and where the evidence is: the sentence, the section and the paper, with a link.
Why your solution? Why we judge that your product or technology can address the problem.
Why reach out? The concrete, scientifically relevant reason to start a conversation.
These are not confirmed buying intentions. They are evidence-based opportunities, grounded in what researchers have actually reported. You still find out whether the problem remains and whether your solution fits. You just don't start from zero.
We start from the same public data (grants, publications, clinical trials, personnel changes, procurement), then go further into each paper:
Reported limitations, in the researcher's own words. When a researcher writes in their own paper that "sensitivity precluded longitudinal sampling" or "lot-to-lot variability complicated normalization", we catch it: 30,404 verified quotes across 14,860 researchers, each checked against the source sentence. We know of no other sales tool that does this.
Products and instruments at researcher level. Product-citation data exists elsewhere, mostly sold as market reports and reagent search engines. We put it in the sales tool: ask "who used FD4 in Germany since 2024?" and get named researchers with the methods sentence as evidence. 7,622 distinct products and methods, mapped to the 18,843 researchers who cite them, with catalogue numbers where the paper gives them. Filter prospects by which competitor's product they name.
Distributors and procurement. Which distributors carry which brands, and their EU tender activity.
A briefing on every enriched researcher: their current setup and the limitation they reported, with a link to the source sentence. 34,085 briefings ready today.
And it is bought like a tool, not procured: public prices, month to month or a year at 20% off, cancel any time, no setup fee and no implementation phase. Buy on the pricing page and you are searching the same day, or book a demo first.
Yes: the paper at the top of the landing page is real. Völschow and colleagues (University Heart and Vascular Center Hamburg, 2026) wrote that their high-sensitivity troponin assay's specificity was relatively low compared to other studies; we show the sentence, the product, the authors and a link to the open-access paper, and we say what we do not know (whether it still stands, and who would buy). In the demo we run the same on your products and your competitors'.
Public, openly available sources, refreshed weekly: the international researcher registry (4.87 million profiles), the biomedical literature with its open-access full text and preprints, research funders in Europe, North America and Asia, clinical-trial registries, and EU public procurement. Contact details come from institutions' own staff and lab pages and from the papers themselves. No bought lists and no scraped social profiles. The sources of personal data are named on our privacy page.
Fresh every day. New papers and preprints are collected every morning, our own models read their methods and discussion sections every night, and what they find reaches your workspace the next morning. The labs that publish with the products you name are searched every hour through the day. Grants, clinical trials and public procurement are re-pulled from their registries on their own schedules.
And we're deliberate about honesty: every reported problem is verified against the sentence it came from, and the ones that don't hold up are dropped. That's why we quote 30,404 verified quotes, not a bigger, noisier figure. The figures on these pages are counted from the database, not rounded up, and they grow as the reading runs.
Yes. We find researchers by what they publish, wherever they publish: the 50,815 we have already enriched span 148 countries, and we enrich anyone else who publishes on demand, so you're not boxed into a pre-baked region. Grants and trials come from funders and registries worldwide. If your buyers are working scientists, they're reachable wherever they publish.
Contact details come from public, professional sources: institutional and lab team pages, ORCID, and the publications themselves, not scraped social profiles. Every contact is labelled verified or assumed so you always know what you're acting on. It's professional data for legitimate B2B outreach about published work; we don't sell data or build hidden profiles. Full detail is on our privacy page.
Yes, and a niche is where it works best. If your product solves a specific problem for a small number of research groups in the world, a list sorted by field or job title buries them among thousands of people who will never need it. Lacuna finds the groups that have described that problem in their own papers, whatever their field or title.
Don't wait for the 150 researchers who need your product to find you. Find them first.
It works the same whatever you sell, as long as your buyer is a working scientist (a PI, a lab manager, a core facility, a procurement office in a research institution, or a translational team inside pharma): an antibody CRO, an SPR-instrument maker, a single-cell library kit company or a bioinformatics SaaS.
Public prices in your own currency: Solo at $199, 1 990 kr or 189 € a month and Growth at $549, 5 490 kr or 519 €, or 20% less paid yearly. Buy on the pricing page and your account is ready within minutes, or book a demo first. Cancel any time, no setup fee. Scale is priced together with you.
We reach out straight away to find a time, usually within the week: a walkthrough on your own target market, then your account, with an AI and enrichment allowance to explore with.
No implementation consultants. Buy a plan and you are in within minutes, or book a demo and we walk you through first. We'll import your existing prospect list for free during your first month.
No. There is no free trial and no free account. What you can do before you pay is book a demo, where we run real queries on your own market while you watch. After that it is a paid plan; the monthly one can be cancelled at any time.
